Yes, the last day of the Spring Fever Classic was almost a washout, but we managed to get the games in! Thanks to everyone -- starting with Tournament Director Greg Eason -- for their super-hero efforts. The tournament was a huge success, and we’re not just talking about the increase in numbers from 2012. The Tournament Committee was on the job this year, which is wonderful. You all deserve to take a breather now. Kudos to all of you, and to all our teams for attending the 2013 Spring Fever Classic!

Tryouts for the 2013-2014 season begins Monday, May 20th through the 23rd (the 24th is a rain date, if needed) at Martha Rivers Park in Gastonia.

GUSC, for the second consecutive year, joins force with Belmont Abbey College to provide a comprehensive soccer experience for kids ages U6 to U16 -- June 17-21 -- directed by BAC soccer coaches John Keating and Mike Lynch. The camp will offer a Morning Strikers Session (for players U9 to U16 and cost $110) and an Evening FUN-damentals Session (U6-U13; $75). Moe's Southwest Grill (at 3908 East Franklin Blvd. in Gastonia) will sponsor GUSC's Academy teams this spring. Academy teams and players will receive special discounts at the Gastonia location. The director of marketing will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing the club’s marketing strategies, communications and PR activities. GUSC has long maintained a good relationship with the local media—including the Gaston Gazette and the Belmont & Mount Holly News. This new role is charged with maintaining those relations, while creating new ones. Volunteers are asked to email The Board.

THANKS to everyone who participated in the club’s "give back" initiative. Socks (given to us by High Point-based Topsox), gear (from North Meck Soccer Club) plus school supplies, water coolers and draw string bags (from the Walt Disney Company) were delivered on March 4 to a school in Jamaica. The items will give the school’s athletic program a much-needed boost. This school was chosen because a club member was making a scheduled trip there, and organized the effort. If anyone would like to spearhead a similar effort, just let us know.
