Letter from the Executive Director
Dear Gaston United Members,
On behalf of all our coaches and volunteers, thank you for coming out to Tryouts – and for your consistent diligence and support of our club. We had a couple challenging weeks – particularly with the weather this past week, and we thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we moved training sessions around. We’re pleased; in the two weeks of Tryouts, we had 344 registered, which is a great number for us. Please give yourselves a nice round of applause for that.
Admittedly, Tryouts are one of the most stressful times of year for our coaches. When we have our Coaches Roundtable Meetings, we reinforce our No. 1 objective, which is to place players in the best situations possible, where their development and growth remain our top priority. We know Tryouts are also stressful on parents – and especially on players. We don’t take that lightly. We made some tough decisions with our rosters. No roster decisions were made by a single coach; we looked at all scenarios, as a collective, before making roster decisions.
We feel confident in our decisions – tough as they were – and we hope you trust us as leaders to do what’s best for your child and children. One of the benefits of being a smaller club is being able to see everyone fairly often and to have honest, candid conversations. I am always available to answer questions. Email me anytime.
We look forward to seeing everyone at our Annual General Meeting – tomorrow (Tuesday), May 30th, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at First Baptist Church, in Gastonia.
Wishing one and all a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.
