GUSC Appoints New Executive Director
Gaston United Soccer Club’s executive board announced that Jonas Richardson will be the club’s new executive director.
“We are so excited to have Jonas as a part of the Gaston United team,” said GUSC president Trey Albright. “As a U.S. Soccer Federation B-licensed coach, Jonas is not only qualified, but also has the leadership skills that will allow Gaston United to grow and develop the best players throughout greater Gaston County.” A former collegiate standout and two-year team captain at Thomas University, Richardson is a USSF National Youth Licensed coach who has also been an Region III Olympic Development Player (ODP) staff coach since 2009.
A native of Anderson, S.C., Richardson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management. Richardson comes to Gaston United after three years with the Carolina Rapids, where he oversaw the club’s Youth Academy and coached U13 and U14 Boys. Prior to his time with the Rapids, Richardson coached at Charlotte United Futbol Club from 2007 to 2013. “I am blessed and would like to thank everyone at the GUSC for the opportunity to join the club,” said Richardson, who joins United in time for tryouts in May at Martha Rivers Park in Gastonia. “I have been impressed with everyone during the interview process, and I am very much looking forward to working with everyone to make the GUSC program as successful as it can be.”
In his role with GUSC, Richardson will oversee all aspects of coaching, including coaching philosophy and player development, as well as serve as the club’s visionary leader for future development. Richardson will also work with the executive board in developing plans for sponsorship and funding initiatives while working to develop a plan for growth and expansion, including new field space. “This is a big job for me, but it is one I’m excited to take on,” Richardson said. “I plan to grow in this role - personally and professionally - just as I plan to grow the Club and develop our players.”
Said Vincent Bofah, a former ODP coaching colleague of Richardson's and GUSC's Director of Coaching for Academy: "I am thrilled to have Jonas join the GUSC family. He has the support of the coaching staff of GUSC. He will shine in this role.”
