Ways To Donate

Gaston United Soccer Club is proud to promote soccer to the children of the greater Gaston County communities. It is only through the generosity of this community that our club can support this mission. Established in 1992, Gaston United Soccer Club is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to provide a quality club environment dedicated to player development. We take considerable pride in providing an atmosphere that is focused, positive, safe, friendly and enjoyable. We believe this environment cultivates player confidence, self-esteem and, ultimately soccer skills. To remain vibrant, we request your financial support. All contributions to Gaston United are tax-deductible. Thank you in advance for your support.

WHY GIVE?
As is the case at many soccer clubs across the nation, Gaston United Soccer Club’s player dues do not cover the full cost of operating the club for the year. The remaining costs are covered by loyal friends and business sponsors of Gaston United. Additional member and community support help offset the need for dramatic fee increases in the future. Financial gifts aretax-deductible; fee increases are not.

Your giving allows us to:

  • Attract and retain our professional coaches and club staff
  • Provide our players with the most up-to-date equipment
  • Provide scholarships to players in order to offer an opportunity for every child to play soccer without regard for ability to pay
  • Support growth and development of young people through soccer
  • Ensure that the financial support is there to assure stability in our operations

WAYS TO GIVE
Annual Fund Gifts given under the Annual Fund support the Club’s operating budget for the current fiscal year. Most importantly, your contribution will keep our players’ dues from increasing. This is the single most important way that you can give to GUSC.  As a private not-for-profit organization, the club funds all expenses and costs of its programming. This is supported by loyal GUSC staff, coaches, parents and businesses contributions to the Annual Fund each year. These gifts help meet the Club’s ongoing need for flexible, unrestricted income to support our Club’s mission of player development. Each year Annual Fund donors provide vital support to the Club.
Endowment Gifts Gifts to the Endowment Fund secure the longevity of Gaston United Soccer Club. When the Club uses revenue from the Endowment, the principal is kept intact, and only a portion of the interest income is utilized.
Matching Gifts These gifts provide a "buy one, get one free" opportunity for the Club. Matching gifts are offered by hundreds of corporations, which match or sometimes even triple their employees’ philanthropic gifts. Check with your employer to learn whether your company participates in this giving opportunity.
Special Scholarships Our Scholarship funds exist to give eligible players financial assistance. The Dr. Chuma Ononye Scholarship Fund, established in 2010 after the sudden death of a former GUSC parent, is a scholarship fund specifically for girls (Dr. Ononye had two daughters). Funds raised for our general scholarship fund go toward funding the club fees of eligible scholarship participants.
Restricted and Unrestricted Gifts

Restricted gifts can be used only during the year in which they are given, and can be used only for the purpose the donor has specified, such as coaching training programs, financial assistance to players, donation to a specific team or certain facility improvements. Unrestricted gifts are allocated where the need is the greatest.

TYPES OF GIVING
Charitable Remainder Trust Assets are placed in a trust for Gaston United Soccer Club and generate annual income for the donor or family member for a fixed term or for life. The donor receives a current income tax deduction for a portion of the value of assets transferred to the trust.
Charitable Lead Trusts The income generated from assets placed in trust is gifted to Gaston United Soccer Club for a period of years. The trust assets can be returned to the donor or transferred to heirs with little or no estate and gift taxes due.
Bequest Provisions Charitable gifts may also be made under the terms of the donor’s will, leaving a lasting legacy. There are many ways in which life insurance policies no longer needed for family protection may be used to make a contribution, all of which provide tax benefits to the donor.

HOW TO GIVE:
There are a number of ways to make a gift to Gaston United. If you are a former Gaston United parent, you can still support the club you were instrumental in building by participating in the Alumni Giving Program, which provides an opportunity for alumni, parents, and friends of the club to support the important work at Gaston United through tax-deductible gifts. Like most soccer clubs, player fees do not cover the full cost of training a player at Gaston United. Please consider supporting the training and coaching at Gaston United that gave you such valuable experiences, memories and life lessons. A cash or check contribution is the easiest and most common way to give; checks can be mailed to Gaston United Soccer Club, 3434 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28056.

If you would like for your contribution to go toward a specific area, or would like more information, please contact our Executive Director, Jonas Richardson, at jonas.richardson@gastonunitedsoccer.org
